Description

Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts. Getting started with multi-factor authentication Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more. Getting started with passwordless Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more. Getting started with autofill Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers. Microsoft personal, work or school accounts Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

I would give a zero if i could

I use the authentication app for work on a daily. Its not a maybe or sometimes but every single time. So for me to not get into my teams at work. On my cellphone I am signed in, but i need to get into teams to use an excel form sheet we use for a daily use. It prompted me to update the application, told me to insert the code onto the app or a new window should prompt me to do so. Nothing. Endless going around in circles. Thinking there was a problem with my iPhone application for this specific version. So i downloaded it on my samsung phone which i did, and still something is wrong. So its not our phones or anything, but the developers probably while fixing all the bugs and fixes they deleted a code that should prompt a code inserted into it. I cant even see the two digit code or the 6 digit code it used to show. BRING BACK THE OLD APP that was such a convenient to everyone. Technology they say is great but if people rely on it whether its for work or school, it should let you see that you will get people introuble at a school and probably have people fired for a mistake that wasnt ours to begin with.
Locked out of my account now
Mijukymi on 2023-08-18
I'm currently locked out of my account because when you press the "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now" option, it just brings you to 2 more options that ask you to have the app. This app worked fine until my phone broke, so I had to get a new one. I have NO access to my old Authenticator and this new one WILL NOT let me sign in even when I press the "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now" option. How am I supposed to log in when I have no access to the old Authenticator?? I tried seeking help from Microsoft's website but NOTHING has helped. I can't log in on the website to get the customer service chat because the Authenticator is not working. I cannot contact a single human being at Microsoft to help resolve this issue of the app dragging me in circles when I try and tell it that I have no access to the Authenticator app. How does it make sense that when you tell it you don't have access to the Authenticator app, it brings you to only 2 options, both of with REQUIRE an Authenticator app. Please save yourself the trouble and don't download this app.
Never updates itself
AllYourMacsAreBelongToUs on 2023-08-18
Seems when ever I need to use the app there’s something wrong with its function that prevents me from generating or receiving a verification code. Often, I find that it is due to the app needing an update. The only way to do the update, which apps no longer do automatically ever since iOS 15 (I’ve used 3 different phones since then, so it’s not the phone), is to manually go here in the App Store and click an update button for this app.. Otherwise, it’s up to the developers to solution the update query from within the app. Microsoft Authenticator dev team is behind the ball in this regard. They should make this app check to see that it’s the latest version and if not then at least air/toast notify me or something. Anything. -2 stars for being inconvenient 3/5ths of the time.
Going in circles

Both times I have been forced to use this app, it has been an extreme hassle. It makes you jump through many hoops. I have been trying for some time to merely get into my school email account and have been unable to due to issues in the app. For all intents and purposes, I am locked out. They make you sign into the email account in the app, give you a code, and say to open to the app. Problem is, I’m already in the app and there is no place for me to input the code. The whole thing is ridiculous and unnecessary. The authentication process makes me want to switch to gmail.
Rarely works
SammyOrtizz on 2023-08-18
Only works sometimes and if you aren’t able to verify the step through your phone you’re pretty much screwed because there is no other way to get past the security code. Most of the time the security code will pop up and then not give me my keyboard so I am unable to log in to my account. They then have the code option but in order for that to work you need to have the app unlocked which doesn’t work when you tap unlock. I typically have to wait 30-45 minutes until I am able to get it to work. Terribly executed and bug fixes need to be worked on.
Painful and obtrusive & MS big brother
txkneader on 2023-08-18
I use Outlook and MS products at work on work computer. MS says “your IT department” requires 2 step authentication and you must download app on your personal phone. LIE. MS requires 2step and download on my personal phone. Not my IT department. There are exactly 2 computers (owner and 1 employee) and zero (0) IT department. As an app minimalist but MS big brother required and no other means allowed: Downloaded. Authenticated employers license to me personally. Delete app as it has no business whatsoever being on my phone.
Absolutely useless if you have to sign in a second time
nick7486926 on 2023-08-18
This app is allowing me to sign in, as it should, but then, how stupid do you have to be to make me USE the Authenticator WHILE I’m trying to sign INTO the app. I can’t even get or see any codes because I’m not even logged into the app yet but nooooooooo you have to be logged in TO LOG INTO the app. Such a stupid flaw that really made me uninstall. Sure it works and it’s secure but holy **** did that design make me question if I needed the app.
Only putting five stars to get noticed…
idk wbat to title this on 2023-08-18
I’m a college student who needs to get into my canvas account in order to do that I need to log into my Microsoft usually this app never gave me problems. But now no number pops up and I’m stuck. I’ve contacted my school but they’re no help either and they say it’s a Microsoft malfunction there’s literally no support number or email where I can reach out to you and I’m very disappointed because it’s obviously an account that I need to use.
App not recognizing my Apple iPhone 13 work email
Firereee on 2023-08-18
Microsoft authenticator is the app that my company wants us to use. However it is not working on my Apple iPhone 13. My company has tried several different times to get me in and it still doesn’t acknowledge. It gives a two digit code. However, there is no place for me to click it. Just sits there and blinks. What is wrong with this app? My company is frustrated for me asking employees, and I am fed up.
Forced to use

I can’t login to my sharepoint without using the Microsoft app? So my other Authenticator isn’t good enough and I need multiple apps now because Microsoft wants you to be completely locked into their ecosystem? I had work I needed to check and spending 20 min downloading and setting up authentication I already had going is annoying and another reason I only use Microsoft at work and refuse to at home.
